The Minimalist Mind

A Curious Guide to Doing Less, Better

Your brain is a supercomputer running on code from the Stone Age.

The good news? There\’s a performance hack most people miss.

Let’s talk about the hidden physics of mental clarity, and how to upgrade your mind\’s operating system.

Imagine your mind as a tiny office worker.

Right now, they\’re drowning in paperwork, notifications, and endless decisions.

But what if you could give them a clean desk and clear systems?

Let\’s talk about mental minimalism (not the aesthetic kind).

Almost nobody tells you this about mental energy: it\’s a finite resource – like a battery with 100 units per day.

But most people drain 80% of it just managing chaos:

– Random notification (-1)

– Messy workspace (-2)

– Task switching (-5)

– Decision fatigue (-3)

The math isn\’t pretty.

The secret?

Strategic elimination.

Most people start their day asking: \”What should I do first?\”

The minimalist mind asks: \”What can I eliminate entirely?\”

This shift changes everything.

Your inputs fall into 4 categories:

1. Essential & Energizing → Keep & optimize

2. Essential & Draining → Systematize or delegate

3. Non-Essential & Energizing → Schedule intentionally

4. Non-Essential & Draining → Eliminate ruthlessly

Here’s a quick exercise: review your last week and ask yourself where did your time go.

The realization I add after failing so much is that the best systems are built for our laziest, most distracted selves.

Why?

Because that\’s who shows up when things get tough.

So stop fighting your nature and start working with it.

And for this, you can use The Focus Funnel:

1. Clear space (physical + digital)

2. Set impossibly small goals

3. Create friction for distractions

4. Build momentum through small wins

Think of it like training a puppy – start simple.

How to implement this? Follow this protocol:

Phase 1 – Audit:

• Track energy, not just time

• Identify leverage points

• Map decision nodes

• Note natural patterns

Phase 2 – Design:

• Create clear defaults

• Build decision trees

• Set environmental triggers

• Establish feedback loops

The minimalist mind is about creating space for your brain to do its best work.

Think of your mind like a sports car: you can fill it with junk and wonder why it\’s slow… Or keep it tuned and watch it perform as designed.

The choice is yours.

So start here:

1. Pick ONE area for minimalist experimentation

2. Apply these principles for 2 weeks

3. Measure impact on energy & output

4. Iterate based on results

Small daily choices = massive compound interest for your brain.

Here\’s the wild part: once you start thinking this way, you\’ll see opportunities for simplification everywhere.

It\’s like getting new glasses and realizing the world\’s been in HD all along.

Your brain isn\’t broken. It\’s probably just asking for space to do its thing.

Give it that space and watch what happens.

I thought minimalism was a trend from YouTube gurus until I tried. And I don’t want to go back, only simplify even more.

With Love,

Frank
