A new perspective on finding your uniqueness as a creative

(this goes deeper than you think)

OK, this has been a rough week.

Nightmare mode with all three of us sick. With a 4-month old baby, it gets even tougher to recover because the nights are, let\’s say, active 😅

Just to say that I couldn\’t do enough research and thinking for this issue of the newsletter, thus it will be a short one. Hopefully helpful.

Anyways…

I thought about a new perspective on how to stand out as a creative that I want to share with you.

This is more particularly about how to find and cultivate your uniqueness.

Because it is an ongoing journey. A moving boundary. And I want to give you all the tools I can to help you in this exploration.

Here is what I want you to do from now on: find patterns.

This means finding repetitive motifs.

Like patterns on a piece of fabric, you would use for clothes.

Life is a complex mix of patterns. Temporal (circadian rhythm, biological rhythm, climate changes…) or spatial (wavelets in the sand on the shore, stripes on animals and plants..).

There are motifs in the content you consume and create.

But also inside you.

How you behave, react. How you think.

There are hidden patterns, often subconscious.

If you were able to see them in you and in others, you\’ll know what makes you unique. You would be able to make it shine brighter.

Simple in principle. Sometimes not so much in practice.

The trick is to be more observant.

Practice self-awareness along with your daily activities.

Observe how you feel about what you see and read, and what you are naturally tempted to think and do.

We tend to lie to ourselves to fit beliefs we borrowed from our parents, teachers, or anyone we let have an influence on our thoughts.

It can be challenging to see what\’s really us.

Thus, it is a practice that requires special attention. A careful, non-judgmental inspection of every move you make, externally and internally.

Don\’t get caught in the noise. Find those patterns that emerge from it.

Next week, I will share 4 frameworks that can make push things even further…

Be unique,

Frank
